DAY 37 OF 365: A NIGHT IN PARIS

Ok so I didn’t spend a night in Paris, nor did I watch the porn she made with her ex boyfriend. I did however have a bonvoyage dinner at Madame Claude’s tonight in Jersey City. The food was impeccable, the atmosphere entrancing and the company even better. The French know how to cook and enjoy food.
A group of us decided to have one last dinner together before our buddy set course for Los Angeles, joining his wife in the warm weather and sunny beaches. Hmm, sounds like a scene out of 90210. Ok, I digress, back to Paris. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and I started out with a bowl of vegetarian non-dairy butternut squash soup. Now, I have never tried this before so I have nothing to compare it to, but my god was it delicious. There was so much going on in that bowl that the only way to describe it would be to say that a firework of tastes exploded in my mouth. See, there I go again. My taste buds have really been expanding their horizons, leading me to believe that I have taken food for granted. Well, not anymore! For dinner I enjoyed a nice hanger steak with a peppercorn sauce. Now, I know steak isn’t great for you, but seeing as I hardly ever order it and never cook it myself, I decided to treat myself. The meat was so tender and it melted in my mouth. I also enjoyed a side of ratatouille. Now I am a huge fan of the movie, and I am proud to say that I have seen it over five times and I could see it five more times. Even after seeing the film I still had no idea what ratatouille was or what was even in it. So when I saw it on the table I had to try it! It was amazing. It was like being at home and every memory that you have of home cooked meals was in that bowl of pleasure. That scene at the end of the film when the evil critic tries the ratatouille was what I felt. It was like I was transported back in time. I felt happy and at peace. Well, dinner was over and I had to order dessert. I mean this was Marcus' “Last Supper” with the Jersey City gang. So I ordered the apple tart crepe. Heavenly is what it was. I didn’t finish it but it was a perfect way to end the meal. Now I am sure you must be saying, “well Dave, that didn’t sound healthy”. I know, but I don’t eat like that everyday and it was a special occasion. The fact is that I have been working hard for over a month now, and it was time to treat myself. A reward for all the hard work I have been doing. And it wasn’t all bad for me and I didn’t over eat; which was a problem that I used to have.
So after dinner we all said our goodbyes and headed home. I am still sore from Monday night’s workout but I am eager to get back to the gym and work off all the amazing food I ate tonight. I am sure JC will put me through the ringer tomorrow. He always does. It’s weird to think that Marcus and Diane are gone. I am sure that they will be back for visits and that I will go out to LA and visit also, but they are no longer a couple of blocks away. We all won’t be getting together for drinks or dinner. It’s sad, but I wish them the best. Well, off to bed. Busy day tomorrow.
